Dunster - May 30

(Thursday 31 May 2007) by Karin
Bzzzzzz bzzzzz bzzzzzz.... they are really trying to drive me nuts..... mosquitos....aaarggghhhh... and now one of them has sneaked into my bedroom. I'm surprised they still want me.... must not be much blood left. I've been bitten so many times over the last two or three weeks. You kill one and ten other ones are waiting in line.
Got up early as the sun was shining and it promised to be another hot day. Wanted to get on with my sweet pea trench and I did finish the longer one. I think almost 10 meters. What a job. First I pulled out the grass (more weeds then grass) and added that to one of the compost bins.
Little rocks..
Little rocks..
Then I loosened the dirt, not easy with all those little and big rocks.
and bigger rocks

Am surprised I didn't end up with a hand full of blisters. I put the bigger rocks in one bucket and the smaller ones and the dirt in another one. When bucket full I sifted the bucket with small rocks and dirt.

Dirt in the wheelbarrow and small rocks in yet another bucket as I only have one wheelbarrow. When all this was done I returned the dirt (without the rocks) to the trench and added some compost. I then emptied the rocks into the wheelbarrow and pushed that one to the barn to be added to the rock wall. Next week I will probably plant the sweet peas outside.
Really hot today
Really hot today

It was soo hot this afternoon (26 degrees in the shade) and I wanted to finish this, that I kept taking off layers of clothing until not much was left. Isn't it great to be out in the boonies with nobody else around???? My back did get a bit of a sunburn.
A nice walk with Shasta in the evening but a bit shorter then usual as I was tired. Stopped at the neighbors to see if Bob was home as he will help me with the camera and the pictures. Asked him if it was safe to hitchhike out here but he will come and pick me up tomorrow. Pictures might be on soon.
Time for bed now and no bear stories tonight.
